Moving Forward

Have you ever been in a tight spot? Perhaps no people in history have been in a more difficult position than the children of Israel were in when they left Egypt. The Pharaoh of Egypt had reluctantly released the children of Israel to worship God in the wilderness. Pharaoh soon had second thoughts, however, and said in Exodus 14:5, “Why have we done this, that we have let Israel go from serving us?” He immediately got his army together and gave chase and caught up with them. When the Israelites saw them coming, fear swept over them and they were totally afraid. Then Moses lifted up his voice and spoke to the people these words. “Don’t be afraid. Stand firm and watch God do His work of salvation for you today. Take a good look at the Egyptians today for you’re never going to see them again. God will fight the battle for you. And you? You keep your mouths shut!” (Exodus 14:13-14 – Message Bible)

The passage continues in Exodus 14:15. “And the Lord said unto Moses, Wherefore criest thou unto me? Speak unto the children of Israel, that they go forward.” With Pharaoh’s army about to destroy them from behind, and miles of deep water in front of them, the situation was impossible in the natural, but they began to move forward. Then Moses stretched out his rod, the Red Sea parted, and they passed over to the other side on dry ground.

In order to move forward, you can’t be anxious, worried, or full of concerns. You must cast your cares on the Lord. Satan wants you to run away from what God has called you to do, but God wants you to “stand still” and see His deliverance. You must pray about your situation based on what the Word of God says. You need to get an arsenal of scriptures that you look up, write down, meditate on, and then pray them. And when you pray, you must pray with thanksgiving. You can’t be thankful and sad at the same time.

Speak what God says about your problem. You can’t fight a battle merely by thinking about it. Speaking the Word of God aloud is the best way to overcome the negative thoughts that try to flood your mind. Stop trying to figure out how God is going to resolve your situation. Trust in God’s ability to work it out for you. You are the believer, but God is the performer. Then praise God for His Word and that His Word is working mightily in you. And just like the children of Israel, you will move forward out of that tight spot and experience victory in your situation.
