An Established Heart

The Apostle Paul admonished believers in Colossians 2:7 to be “rooted, built up, and stablished in the faith.” Becoming established in the things of God is not instantaneous or automatic but is absolutely necessary – or we will think, believe, or say anything. How do we develop an established heart that is fixed, steady, and trusting in the Lord regardless of the circumstances, the pressure or the problems? There are three important ways to develop an established heart.

Meditate on the Word. It is interesting that before Joshua entered the promised land, the Lord admonished Israel’s new leader to “meditate” on the Word of God so that he would make his way prosperous and then he would have “good success” (Joshua 1:8).

Act on the Word. Faith always has corresponding actions. Jesus told a story of someone that built his house on a rock and another man who built his house on the sand. Both men experienced a storm but each man had a different outcome. The doer of the Word came out of the storm victoriously.

Hold fast to the Word. The scripture says in Hebrews 10:23 to “hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering.” What we say matters. There is a speaking part to faith. Christianity is called the great confession.

Having a heart that is established in His Word will have a powerful affect upon our lives. An established heart will help us fulfill God’s great plan and purpose for our lives.
