When Adversity Comes

When the enemy sends adversity our way, there are certain things that we can do that will stop his strategies against us.

1) When adversity comes, we must let the peace of God rule in our hearts. We must follow Jesus’ admonition to His disciples to “Let not your heart be troubled.” The Amplified Translation says, “And do not permit yourselves to be fearful and intimidated and cowardly and unsettled” (John 14:27). When the enemy comes against us, the most powerful thing we can do is to refuse to become anxious or upset. We must allow the peace of God to rule in our hearts.

2) When adversity comes, choose to spend time with God. Run to God with expectation, faith, and confidence. Psalm 32:7 says, “Thou art my hiding place; thou shalt preserve me from trouble; thou shalt compass me about with songs of deliverance.” Communing with God is essential and brings tremendous blessings and benefits into our lives. The Amplified version of Psalm 91:1 says, “He who dwells in the secret place of the most High shall remain stable and fixed under the shadow of the Almighty (whose power no man can withstand.”

3) When adversity comes, we must watch what we say. Do not let negative words come out of your mouth when the pressure is on. Proverbs 18:21 says, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.” The Good News Bible says, “You will have to live with the consequences of everything you say.” We are admonished to always speak words of life and to watch what we say. Our words are powerful and will determine the whole direction of our life. 4) When adversity comes, we must always endeavor to walk in the God kind of love. The Amplified Bible says in 1 Corinthians 13:8, “His love never fails – never fades out or becomes obsolete or comes to an end.” The God kind of love prevails in every situation and circumstance. The Phillips Translation puts it this way. “It is, in fact, the one thing that still stands when all else has fallen.” Walking in the love of God will see us through all the negative challenges in our life. 5) When adversity comes, we must always remember who we are in Christ. According to 2 Corinthians 5:17, when we have received Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, we have become “a new creature” in Christ. We are the workmanship of God. We have His life, His nature, and His ability. When one of the devil’s attacks comes our way, we must remind him of who we are and what we have in Christ. The devil will always bring adversity our way to stop the vision and plan of God from being fulfilled in our lives. However, what we say with our voice and how we act in the midst of the trial will determine our outcome. Responding to these attacks God’s way will help us lead the life of an overcomer, and assure an outcome of success and victory.
