Called To Flourish

David is a wonderful example of someone that lived his life with a sense of destiny and purpose. He was a man after God’s own heart and he connected with the will of God from an early age. Although David encountered obstacles and challenges that would have discouraged most people, he just kept moving forward, making steady progress, and flourishing where he was planted. There were certain things that David practiced in his life that caused him to walk in the reality of Psalm 92:12, “The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree: he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon.” What caused David to flourish in his lifetime?

(1) David understood the power of knowing God. David loved God and he had a close relationship with the Lord. He was a man of prayer and he meditated in the Word of God. Many know about God but David knew God. His intimate relationship with God kept him steady during times of adversity.

(2) David understood what it meant to be in covenant. He understood that God is totally committed to those who love and obey Him. David realized that a challenge against him was a direct challenge to Almighty God. When you are in covenant, you know that God is committed to you.

(3) David understood the importance of speaking his faith. David did not face his “giant” in silence. He told Goliath what was going to happen before it did. We can’t go further in the will of God without using our faith. Just like David, we must believe and speak. David went from faith to faith. Faith makes all things possible.

David flourished in his lifetime because he knew God, had a covenant with him, and understood how things would change when he lifted his voice in faith.
