The Work of the Holy Spirit

One of the privileges of being a son of God is following the leadership of the Holy Spirit. The scripture says in 1 Cor. 3:16, “Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the spirit of God dwelleth in you?” As a child of God, the Spirit of God dwells in you. That means that your spirit is a safe guide and should never be ignored. People want others to tell them what to do. They try to get a general consensus from others before making a decision. However, as believers, we don’t have to flip a coin or draw straws to determine our direction in life. The leading of the Holy Spirit can be trusted and relied upon.

Besides the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit, the Bible also talks about the infilling of the Spirit of God. Jesus admonished His disciples to “tarry in the city of Jerusalem” until they were endued with power from on high. That event happened on the Day of Pentecost. The scripture says in Acts 2:4, “And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. Not all believers are filled with the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking with other tongues, but they could be. God has given the church a supernatural means of communication. When we pray in tongues, our spirit is in direct contact with God, who is a spirit. Speaking in tongues is spirit-directed prayer and is of great benefit to the person who takes advantage of it.
