The Ministry of Angels

by Sherry Jones

The Bible tells us that angels are all around us. The scripture says in Psalms 91:11, “For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.” Let’s look at a few things from God’s Word to understand who angels are, how they operate, and what they do.

1) Angels worship God. Revelation 5:11-12 says “And I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne …saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honor, and glory, and blessing.” Angels are passionate concerning their worship of God.

2) Angels protect us. Psalm 91:11-12 says, “There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.” Angels protected Daniel as he spent the night in the lion’s den.

3) Angels strengthen us. First Kings 19:5-6 says, “Then an angel touched him, and said unto him, Arise and eat. And he looked, and, behold, there was a cake baken on the coals, and a cruse of water at his head. He did eat and drink.” Elijah had fled a wicked queen and was exhausted, but the angel made him a cake and it gave him strength for forty days.

4) Angels enforce the Word that we confess. Psalm 103:20 says, “Bless the Lord, ye his angels, and excel in strength, that do his commandments, hearkening unto the voice of His Word.” Angels respond to the Word of God as we speak it. It is their joy to bring your confession to pass.

5) Angels enforce the Word that we pray. James 5:16 says, “The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.” Angels attend to the prayers of God’s people.

6) Angels respond to praise and worship. Romans 4:20 says, “He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strong in faith giving glory to God. The Living Bible says, “He praised God for his blessing even before it happened.” Angels move when we praise the Lord. Like Paul and Silas, when they were in the Philippian prison, deliverance will come when we praise the Lord. Hebrews 1:14 says, “Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be the heirs of salvation?” Bible teacher Dick Mills wrote, “It is my firm conviction that before the second coming of our Lord, there will be as much angelic activity as there was during His first coming.
